José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior was a prominent Brazilian artist and designer, recognized as one of the first in Brazil to paint in the Realistic tradition of Gustave Courbet and Jean-François Millet. He studied at the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes and later in Paris, and his birthday is celebrated as the Day of Fine Artists in Brazil.
