A central figure of the Bengal School of Art, he was a student of Abanindranath Tagore and later the principal of Kala Bhavana in Santiniketan. His work was deeply influenced by Indian traditions, including Ajanta murals and Japanese wash techniques, and he famously illustrated the original Constitution of India.
