Antonio Calderara was an Italian artist born in Abbiategrasso who lived a reclusive life in Vacciago on Lake Orta. Initially studying engineering, he abandoned his studies in 1925 to pursue art. He was largely self-taught, drawing early inspiration from Piero della Francesca, Seurat, and the Milanese Novecento painters. His career transitioned from figurative works depicting his immediate surroundings to geometric abstraction, for which he is best known, characterized by subtle color variations and atmospheric finishes.
