Dave Ortiz is an American artist of Puerto Rican descent who works in painting, silk-screen printing, and drawing. Raised in East New York during the graffiti explosion of the 1970s and 1980s, he initially found his voice in street art before transitioning to fine art. He studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. His practice blends abstract and figurative elements, combining the vibrant colors and heavy outlining of graffiti with influences from classical sculpture.
