Susan Rothenberg was an American contemporary artist born in Buffalo, New York. She gained prominence in the 1970s for her large-scale, gestural paintings of horses, which bridged the gap between minimalism and figurative art. Throughout her career, she explored themes of memory and movement, later moving to New Mexico where she continued to develop her practice until her death in 2020.
