Richard Patterson is a British painter and a prominent figure in the Young British Artists movement. Born in Surrey, he graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1986 and gained recognition through the seminal 1988 exhibition Freeze. Patterson is known for a style he terms hyperabstraction, which merges photorealistic precision with expressive, abstract brushstrokes. His complex works frequently incorporate pop culture references, toy figurines, and self-portraiture.
