Vittorio Matteo Corcos was an Italian painter born in Livorno, known for his portraits and genre scenes of elegant, finely dressed figures in moments of repose. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and later studied under Domenico Morelli in Naples. He spent time in Paris, where he worked with Goupil & Cie and exhibited at the Salon, before returning to Italy in 1886 to settle in Florence, where he became a sought-after portraitist for the aristocracy.
