Hans Baldung Grien was a prominent German Renaissance artist and a student of Albrecht Dürer. Born in Schwäbisch Gmünd, he trained in Strasbourg before working in Nuremberg under Dürer, who gave him the nickname 'Grien'. He later returned to Strasbourg, where he established a successful workshop. His diverse body of work includes altarpieces, portraits, and allegorical scenes, with his depictions of nudes and witches being particularly notable. He also held public offices in Strasbourg and contributed to the prayer book of Maximilian I.
