Born in Madrid to a German mother, Cristóbal Hara spent his youth in the Philippines, the USA, Germany, and Spain. He initially studied law and business administration before turning to photography in 1969 after being inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Known for his documentary style, he transitioned from black and white to color photography in 1985. He is a recipient of the National Photography Award (2022) and is recognized for his unique, often unconventional approach to capturing Spanish provincial life and culture.
