Gotthard Graubner was born in 1930 in Erlbach, Germany. He is renowned for his exploration of color and space, developing his signature Farbraumkörper ('colour space bodies') in the 1970s by stretching canvas or nylon over foam or synthetic cotton wool. He represented Germany at the 1982 Venice Biennale and lived and worked in Düsseldorf until his death in 2013.
