Juliette Agnel was born in 1973 in Paris, France. She studied plastic arts and ethno-aesthetics at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and multimedia and photography at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris. Following a meeting with anthropologist and filmmaker Jean Rouch, she spent over a decade traveling in Africa. In 2011, she developed an obscura digital camera to film and photograph, and in 2023 was awarded the Niépce Prize.
