James Barnor was born in 1929 in Ghana. His career spans six decades, beginning in Accra in the early 1950s where he established the Ever Young studio taking portraits of community members and public figures. He documented sociopolitical changes across Accra and London for Drum magazine, established the first color-processing lab in Ghana in the early 1970s, and received a major retrospective survey at the Serpentine Galleries in 2021.
