DESCRIPTION

Robert Ryman was an American painter associated with Minimalism, Conceptual art, and monochrome painting. Known particularly for his abstract, monochromatic white-on-white works, he explored nuanced variations in materials, brushstrokes, supports, and hanging methods. Initially trained as a musician, he moved to New York in the 1950s and famously worked as a guard at the Museum of Modern Art before developing his dedicated painting practice.
