Arthur Luiz Piza was born in São Paulo in 1928 and studied painting under Antonio Gomide before moving to Paris in the early 1950s. There, he developed an internationally recognized approach to intaglio and burin engraving, cutting and sculpting metal plates into relief surfaces, and also created collages, porcelain, and jewelry.
