Luiz Carlos Paulino is a Brazilian contemporary visual artist and survivor of the Carandiru prison massacre. He creates poignant oil on canvas paintings, such as diptychs depicting blood-stained stairs, that reflect on his traumatic experiences and the brutal realities of the prison system.
