Alberto da Veiga Guignard was a prominent Brazilian modernist painter born in Nova Friburgo. After studying art in Europe at institutions including the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he returned to Brazil where he became renowned for his lyrical landscapes of Minas Gerais and founded a major art program in Belo Horizonte.
