José Leonilson Bezerra Dias came of age as an artist during the 1980s generation in Brazil, studying at the Escola Pan-Americana de Arte and FAAP in São Paulo. His deeply personal and introspective work centered on emotional states, memory, and relationships, incorporating painting, drawing, and later delicate embroidery and sewn fabric works up until his death from HIV/AIDS in 1993.
