Helene Schjerfbeck

DESCRIPTION

Helene Schjerfbeck was a Finnish modernist painter celebrated for her realist works, still lifes, landscapes, and an extensive series of introspective self-portraits. Born in Helsinki, she studied in France, spent time in artist colonies in Brittany and St. Ives, and evolved a raw, pared-down, and radically modern style.
