Barry Salzman was born in Zimbabwe, schooled in South Africa, and emigrated to the United States at age 21. After an initial business career, he transitioned to working as a full-time artist. His work addresses themes of trauma, memory, identity, and the recurrence of genocide, notably in his award-winning series 'The Day I Became Another Genocide Victim'. He holds degrees from the University of Cape Town, Harvard Business School, and the School of Visual Arts.
