Max Ackermann was a German painter and graphic artist recognized as a pioneer of abstract art in Germany. He studied under Henry van de Velde, Franz von Stuck, and Adolf Holzel. Ackermann advanced absolute painting and geometric abstraction. During the Nazi regime, his work was banned as degenerate art. After World War II, he gained significant popularity for his vibrant abstract paintings and extensive screen printing work, often earning the title painter of the color blue.
