DESCRIPTION
Dai Ying was born in Emeishan, Sichuan, China in 1983, and is currently based between New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing. Beginning her art practice at the age of five with traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting, she moved to New York in 2011 to work as a full-time artist. Her multidisciplinary practice spans mixed-material canvas paintings, installations, video, and performance art, exploring themes of gender, desire, and identity politics amidst the diaspora.
