Ho Kan was born in Nanjing, China, in 1932. He is recognized as a pioneer of Chinese geometric abstraction and was a founding member of the influential avant-garde Ton Fan Group. His minimal and lyrical abstract paintings draw from both Chinese calligraphy and Western Modernism.
