Candido Portinari was a preeminent Brazilian painter associated with the Neo-Realism movement. His work often focused on the social realities of Brazil, particularly the lives of laborers and the rural poor. He is perhaps best known for his 'War and Peace' murals, which were gifted to the United Nations headquarters in New York.
