Eva Hesse was a pioneer of Post-Minimalist art whose career was cut short by her death at age 34. Born in Hamburg, she escaped Nazi Germany via the Kindertransport and eventually settled in New York. She is celebrated for her innovative use of industrial and organic materials such as latex, fiberglass, and plastic, creating sculptures that emphasize materiality, repetition, and the human touch. Her work introduced a sense of psychological vulnerability and physical instability to the rigid geometries of Minimalism.
