Paul Chan was born in Hong Kong and raised in the American Midwest before settling in New York. He is known for a diverse and politically engaged practice that includes digital video projections, charcoal drawings, and pneumatic sculptures. His notable works include 'The 7 Lights' series and a staged production of Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot' in post-Katrina New Orleans. He founded the experimental publishing house Badlands Unlimited in 2010 and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2022.
