David Hammons is an American artist known for his elusive presence and sharp social critiques. Beginning with his "Body Prints" in the late 1960s, he transitioned to using found objects and abject materials—such as hair, grease, and chicken bones—to explore the African-American experience, racial stereotypes, and institutional power.
