Barnett Newman was an American artist who was a key figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement and a pioneer of Color Field painting. He is renowned for his monumental canvases characterized by flat areas of color separated by thin vertical stripes, which he referred to as "zips." His work explored existential themes and significantly influenced the development of late 20th-century modernism.
