John Chamberlain was an American sculptor recognized for his pioneering use of crushed automobile metal and other industrial materials. His large-scale, colorful assemblages translated the energy of Abstract Expressionism into physical form, bridging the gap between that movement and Pop Art. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Black Mountain College and received two Guggenheim Fellowships.
