DESCRIPTION
LisaMaria Maya is a Latina visual artist born in Queens, New York, to immigrant parents from Spain and Puerto Rico. She studied at the Art Students' League of New York and the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico before earning an Art Education degree from NYU. Her expressionist work often utilizes reclaimed materials, such as melted plastic bags and menstrual product wrappers, to explore themes of resilience and the divine feminine. She is a member of Long Island City Artists (LIC-A) and was a 2023-24 ARTworks fellow at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning.
