Berenice Abbott (1898–1991) was an American photographer who became a central figure in documented urban history through her seminal project 'Changing New York,' which captured the city's architectural transformation in the 1930s. After working as an assistant to Man Ray in Paris and establishing herself as a portraitist of the avant-garde, she dedicated decades to preserving and promoting the archive of French photographer Eugène Atget.
