Multimedia and Performance Art
Born in Tunis and raised in France before moving to New York in the 1970s, Colette Lumiere is a pioneering multimedia artist known for her 'living environments' and persona-based performances. She gained notoriety for her street art and baroque, fabric-draped installations that she inhabited as a living sculpture. Throughout her career, she has adopted various personas such as 'Justine' and 'The House of Olympia,' exploring themes of gender, identity, and the blurring of life and art. Her work has been exhibited at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum.
