Noriko Ambe is a Japanese contemporary artist born in Saitama and based in New York and Japan. She received a BFA in oil painting from Musashino Art University in 1990. She is best known for her "Linear Actions" project, which involves hand-cutting and layering thousands of sheets of synthetic or archival paper to create intricate three-dimensional sculptures that resemble topographical maps or geological strata. Her work explores the connection between physical material, time, and the human psyche. Her art is held in major permanent collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
