Born in 1980 in Saint Marys, Pennsylvania, Melissa Joseph is based in New York. She earned degrees from New York University, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work utilizes needle felting on found objects to translate family archives into tactile explorations of her Indian-American heritage, memory, and labor. She is the recipient of the 2025 UOVO Prize from the Brooklyn Museum.
