Bruce Nauman is a highly influential American contemporary artist whose work encompasses sculpture, photography, neon, video, drawing, printmaking, and performance. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he initially studied mathematics and physics before pursuing art at the University of California, Davis. His practice often explores the relationship between language, the human body, and physical space, frequently utilizing repetition and sensory provocation to challenge the viewer. Nauman is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1999 and 2009, and the Praemium Imperiale in 2004.
