Theresa Hak Kyung Cha was an influential avant-garde artist and writer born in Busan, South Korea. Her practice, spanning performance, video, and mail art, frequently explored themes of displacement, language, and memory. She is best known for her 1982 experimental novel, Dictée. Cha earned four degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, before her tragic death in New York City in 1982.
