McArthur Binion is an American artist known for combining minimalist grids with personal archival documents, such as birth certificates, photographs, and address book pages. Born in Macon, Mississippi, he was the first African American to earn an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1973. His work explores the intersection of minimalism, personal identity, and the history of Black abstraction.
