Miya Hannan was born in Japan and worked as a radiologic technologist before immigrating to the United States. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her multidisciplinary practice is heavily influenced by Asian death philosophy, rituals, and scientific education, using materials like soot and paper to preserve stories of lives and histories that are nearly forgotten.
