Ruti Modlin is a Chicago-based artist whose work is deeply informed by her childhood spent in port cities and on merchant ships under the watch of her father, a sea captain. Her practice explores themes of memory and human connection, often through portraits that focus on the emotional topography of the face. Her 2026 exhibition 'Saltwater Lullabies' reflects on these early maritime experiences through a 'tidal' approach to memory and paint.
