DESCRIPTION
Alake Shilling is a Los Angeles-based artist whose vibrant paintings and tactile ceramic sculptures feature a cast of wide-eyed, emotive creatures. Drawing inspiration from children's cartoons, Lisa Frank aesthetics, and 20th-century art movements such as California Funk and the Chicago Imagists, her work explores complex human psychological states through a lens of 'cuteness' and nostalgic whimsy. Shilling has exhibited extensively in Los Angeles and was selected for the Hammer Museum’s 'Made in L.A.' biennial in 2025.
