Erik Bulatov is a major figure in contemporary Russian art, associated with the Sots Art and Moscow Conceptualist movements. His work typically features large-scale paintings that integrate Soviet propaganda slogans and typography with traditional depictions of nature or open sky, exploring the tension between official ideologies and subjective space. He lived and worked in Moscow until 1991, later relocating to Paris.
