Ferdinand Hodler was a prominent Swiss painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His career began with realistic landscapes and portraits, but he eventually developed a unique style called 'Parallelism,' which focused on symmetry, rhythm, and the repetition of forms to reflect the underlying order of nature. His monumental symbolic compositions and Alpine landscapes are considered central to Swiss national identity and the development of Modernism in Europe.
