Born in 1957 in Pitalito, Huila, Carlos Salas is a central figure in Colombian abstract art. Trained as an architect at Los Andes University and in fine arts at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, his work fuses architectural concepts with gestural abstraction. He founded the influential art magazine Mundo and became the youngest artist to have a retrospective at the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art.
