Ashley Bickerton (1959–2022) was a Barbadian-born American artist associated with the Neo-Geo movement in New York during the 1980s. His early work critiqued consumer culture through 'commodity art' using industrial materials and commercial logos. In 1993, he relocated to Bali, Indonesia, where his practice shifted toward 'tropical surrealism,' blending hyper-realistic portraiture with themes of exoticism and environmental decay. His work is held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
