Born in Shanghai and later based in Taiwan and Milan, Hsiao Chin was a leading pioneer of modern abstract art. He co-founded the Ton Fan Art Group in Taiwan in 1956 and the Punto International Art Movement in Milan in 1961. His work sought to bridge Eastern Zen and Taoist philosophies with Western modernism, often utilizing minimalist, high-energy brushwork to explore cosmic and spiritual themes.
