Umico Niwa

DESCRIPTION

Umico Niwa was born in Nagoya, Japan, and received her MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her practice uses speculation and fantasy to challenge normative notions of personhood, often creating hybrid creatures from organic materials like fruit rinds and seeds to explore existence beyond Western constructs of gender and sexuality.
