William Eggleston is an American photographer widely credited with increasing the recognition of color photography as a legitimate artistic medium to be displayed in art galleries. His 1976 solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art was a turning point in the history of the medium. He is known for capturing the beauty in everyday, often mundane subjects in the American South.
