Painting
Born in Delhi, India, to American diplomat parents, Philip Buller is a figurative painter whose work is informed by his globetrotting youth and an admiration for Renaissance and Baroque masters. He received his MFA from the California College of the Arts. Buller's signature technique involves the repeated application and erasure of oil paint on linen, sometimes using a fiberglass screen as a printing tool, to create ghostly, layered figures that evoke the hazy quality of memory and recognition. He currently lives and works on Galiano Island, British Columbia.
