A pioneer of 'functional art,' she was associated with the Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art movements. Her work often centered on the female body and political activism, most notably through her 'Pénétrables' series—canvases designed for human interaction—and anthropomorphic sculptures such as 'The Giant Foot' and 'Red Coat.'
