Painting, Drawing
Julije Knifer was a Croatian abstract painter and a founding member of the Gorgona Group in Zagreb. He is best known for his career-long dedication to the "meander" motif, a geometric pattern he repeated in varied black-and-white compositions to explore rhythm, time, and the essence of painting. He represented Croatia at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001.
