Anu Põder was a major figure in Estonian contemporary art. She is celebrated for her innovative use of soft and ephemeral materials—including wax, textiles, soap, and plastic—to address the female body, identity, and the domestic sphere. Her work gained significant international recognition posthumously, particularly through major retrospectives and inclusion in the 2022 Venice Biennale.
